We want this site to work for everyone reading it, including people using a screen reader, a keyboard, or a magnifier.
What we have done
- Every text and background pairing on the site is checked against WCAG 2.1 Level AA: 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large display type, including text sitting over photographs.
- The whole site is operable by keyboard, and the focus ring is deliberately high-contrast rather than removed.
- The budget calculator’s sliders are real range inputs with labels and live announcements, so the figures are readable by a screen reader as you change them.
- Headings run in order, images carry alternative text, and colour is never the only way information is conveyed.
- Motion respects
prefers-reduced-motion.
Where we know we fall short
We have not had an independent accessibility audit. Everything above is our own testing, which reliably catches contrast, keyboard traps and document structure, but self-testing has blind spots, particularly with screen readers other than the ones we happen to use.
The budget calculator is the most complex thing on the site and therefore the most likely to have a problem we have not noticed. If it fights you, that is the page we most want to hear about.
