Makeup Magic At Home!

DIY makeup is not just about saving money on a makeup professional on the most important day of your life, but also having complete control to look picture perfect.

Wedding day is the most important day for any bride and perhaps the happiest occasion, a day when she wants everything to be up to the mark. Many brides contemplate on doing their makeup by themselves. This is because they like to have a control over the makeup on the most important day of their lives. Not to forget, Kate Middleton on her royal wedding did it by herself and steered clear of an expert. She proved that a bride is more than capable of applying her own makeup on her wedding day. Needless to say, she was an epitome of grace, radiance and timeless beauty. Here’s to a budget conscious bride!
Many brides these days know what suits their skin, have a knack for makeup and like to bring out the best via the makeup. A word of caution, only if you are good at makeup and have a good hand at it, should you be doing it yourself amidst the last minute wedding rush. The idea is to look outstanding yet look like yourself!

Pre-Bridal tips: Every bride wants to look stunning and craves for that ‘bridal glow’ on her wedding day. One has to start preparing from few months before the wedding.

  1. Always consider the climate at the time of the wedding.
  2. One should do cleansing, toning and moisturizing twice a day.
  3. Plan your facial cleansing once every month.
  4. Maintain healthy diet and eat lots of fruits and vegetables. Avoid spicy food.
  5. Drink lots of water to keep your skin hydrated.
  6. Do Yoga, exercise or meditation to avoid stress.
  7. Get at least 8 hours of sleep and relax as much as you can.
  8. Avoid exposure to sun.

Hair Essentials: Try to coordinate the makeup and hair to suit so that the bride looks the star of the evening! Also it is important to make sure that your bridal hairstyle has to complement your facial features, hair color, dress and makeup.

For brides with thin long face should choose something that increases the fullness around the face like curls framing the face.

For brides who have a round face should have a style that gives the face a slimmer look and adds some height.

For brides with heavy round face look better with an updo that is pulled away from the face so that it does not add volume to the face but brings out their facials features.

For brides with prominent cheek bones look lovely with side up-dos, buns and curls cascading down the shoulders.

Highlight features and hide flaws to the hilt: Face should be well contoured to make it look slimmer in pictures. Always use bright blush according to the outfit. Avoid overdo of glitters and shimmers. For hiding pimples, use concealer a tone darker than your complexion. This will discolor the pimple and it will become less noticeable against your skin.

Makeup Expert, Megha Puri gives us her words of wisdom and loads of inputs below on makeup essentials for a DIY wedding makeup at home:

Less is more
Earlier, bridal makeup for wedding was dramatic and often bordered on the superfluous. Everything was in excess and it is amazing how prettily they were presented. However, the modern bride and her friends are fashion savvy and many choose the no-makeup made up look. Gaudy and loud makeup has given way to a more natural look with finer detailing. Waterproof makeup is a must if the wedding takes place in the summer or monsoon months.

Glamorous makeup
A wedding is a moment for the bride to present herself in a unique and special way. Surely, everything needs to be perfect.
Eyes: You want to dazzle and hence your eyes become the fulcrum of the entire bridal makeup project. The colour of your foundation, the hue of the kohl and the liner make for eyes that glow and reflect your glad heart. Blue, black, maroon, gold and emerald are popular choices for eyeshadow and this should match with your overall look.

Lips: Wear a lip blush and nude shades if you have gone heavy on eye makeup. For bridesmaids and friends, a light blush and silken lip color go very well.
Hair: The hair makeup must also be unique but not overwhelming. Go easy on curlers and straightening irons. Keep it relaxed and moistened for a soft look. Match it with the facial makeup and the trousseau. You can use rhinestones, hair jewelry and accessories to upscale the glam quotient.

Do-It-Yourself makeup for brides for the daytime and night!

Bridal look: Dramatic eye makeup with winged-eye is ruling fashion trends. It suits Indian features and traditional Indian dress.

Products you need: Moisturizer, primer, foundation, concealer, loose powder, compact, kohl pencil, eyebrow pencil, eye liner, mascara, lash curler, eye shadows, bronzer, highlighter, blush on, lip balm, lip liner, lipstick, lip gloss.

How to apply:

Base: Apply primer before you start with the base. Dab the concealer only on particular areas which need to hidden. Take few drops of foundation and apply in circular motion all over the face with round brush. Make sure the foundation blends well in your skin. Apply loose powder or try compact powder to set the foundation. A golden tinted foundation and powder would help to add a golden glow to the face. When you apply powder, press the powder all over the face and neck, with a slightly damp sponge. This helps it to set and last longer. Compact powder, rather than loose powder lasts longer and provides a smooth finish. Carry powder compact to touch up makeup.

Eyes: Apply a light shadow over the eyelid and a dark one in the crease of the eyes. Light bronze on the eyelid would look glamorous. Apply a thick line of black eye liner close to the lashes on the upper lid. Extend the liner outwards and slightly upwards, beyond the outer corner of the eyes. Use plenty of mascara. Dark brown shadow on the outer corners of the eyes and join it with the crease line. For the lower lid, apply liner as close to the lower lashes as possible, start from the middle of the lower eyelid and take the line towards the outer eyes. Use a lash curler to curl your lashes and then apply lots of mascara. Apply dark kohl pencil to make your eyes look more defined. Fill your brows with light brown pencil and make it look more arched.

Cheeks: Bronzer is amazing for contouring because it is usually a shade darker than your actual skin tone. Apply diagonally under your cheekbones or parallel to your jaw line. It will make your cheekbones pop. Apply pink or coral blusher, one level above where you apply the bronzer on your cheeks and parallel to your jaw line.

Lips: Always use a lip balm before you start working on your lips. First outline the lips with lip pencil and fill in with the lipstick. Both should be of the same color and add a touch of lip gloss to add shimmer.

Special Features: Always highlight your features with the use of highlighter. Make your cheekbones stand out more by adding highlighter above your blush. Add a touch to the apples of your cheeks over your blush. Add to the bottom and top of your lips to make their shape prominent. Apply a small bump on top of your nose to make it look sharper.

Hair style that goes with this makeup: Your hairstyle has to complement your facial features, hair color, outfit and make up. Waves and curls are more in trend.

Special advice for the bride: Few months before your wedding start maintaining a healthy diet and eat lots of fruits and vegetable and avoid spicy food. Drink lots of water to keep your skin hydrated. Sleep for 8 hours and relax as much as you can. Avoid exposure to sun. Do regular exercise or meditation to avoid stress.
